Some Treatment Options For Back Pain
Here are some available treatment options that you can choose from to cure your back pain. You may want to seek professional advice from your doctor first to see if the treatment option of your choice best fits your specific case.
Biofeedback Therapy. This treatment uses an electronic machine wherein electrodes with attached wires are placed on the patient’s skin, measuring different bodily functions such as breathing, heart rate and muscle tension. A biofeedback therapy allows patients more awareness of how their body reacts to pain and stress levels. It can also teach you how to deal with pain, how to modify the body’s vital functions, how to relax your muscles, how to lower your heart rate and other functions that your are consciously controlling as well.
Chiropractic Adjustment. This manual treatment process involves the adjusting of the spine’s bones and joints in order to achieve proper alignment through different careful techniques such as pulling, pushing and twisting.
Holistic medicine and alternative approaches. This type can give the patient temporary back pain relief through the application of different approaches such as acupuncture, bio-magnets, reflexology and yoga. Acupuncture, for instance, uses needles that are inserted on target points of the body that can help stimulate the immune system and increase blood circulation thus promoting one’s well being. Yoga, on the other hand, involves a lot of balance and stretching techniques that promote bodily strength and flexibility as well as relieve muscle tension and stress.
Surgery. This is usually the last treatment option the last resort when all other alternatives to cure back pain have been exhausted but have little or no avail. Some surgical procedures include spinal fusion, diskectomy and laminectomy. These procedures include the removal or placement of certain elements that can relieve pressure or soothe irritation as well as other determinants that may have caused back pain.
There have been a number of success stories on surgical procedures for certain types of back pain although one should note that not all surgeries have the same outcome or success as the others. It is important to remember that a surgery should only be the last thing in mind and must only be performed when all other avenues have already been exhausted and if the condition is clear and identifiable to warrant one. If you are seriously contemplating a surgery, discuss things thoroughly with your doctor and make sure to set realistic expectations about the matter.
